COMPETITION CATEGORIES

There are three categories for the youth competition under two age groups for regional and national;  Junior (9-12 yrs) and Senior ( 13-18 yrs.)

SCHEDULE

  • Regional Competition is expected be scheduled by local Tamil Sangams and winners must be registered for National Competition by June 1, 2019
  • All registered National Participants must submit the music files by due date which will be announced by local Tamil Sangams

REGISTRATION RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Every participant (solo and group performances) must be registered member of Tamil Sangam.
  • For regional competition, the participants must be registered at local Tamil Sangam. Registration fee is determined by local Sangams. Chicago participants pay $10 per person per performance.
  • All qualified winners and accompanying members from regionals must register for the event at https://fetnaconvention.org/. Entry fee and/or participation fee is applicable.

SOLO DANCE PARTICIPATION RULES

  • Each performance has a time limit of 4 mins and only maximum permitted time is allowed. Negative points apply for overage. The performance will be disqualified if time is exceeded by more than 1 minute.
  • Its mandatory for the music to be submitted prior to the event date. CD’s will no longer be accepted. Please refer Music Submission Guideline section.
  • Choice of song is open to the contestant. Must be in Tamil language.
  • It could be just one song or a medley of songs on any theme that the individual contestant takes up for the dance performance; Theme should reflect Tamil culture and history.
  • Use of music with foul/slang language is not allowed.
  • Props are encouraged. Contestants should get their own props. All props must be specified to the event coordinator.
  • Use of water, fire, inflammable items and vehicles is not allowed on the stage.
  • Dance performance should not convey any indecent gestures.
  • Movies / Bollywood / Kollywood references or copying should be avoided to make it more interesting.
  • The contestants will be judged on their costumes, visual presentation and dance form. Please refer to scoring Guidelines below.
  • The decision of Judges will be final and binding.

  • Each performance has a time limit of 6 mins and only maximum permitted time is allowed. Negative points apply for overage. The performance will be disqualified if time is exceeded by more than 1 minute.
  • Its mandatory for the music to be submitted prior to the event date. CD’s will no longer be accepted. Please refer Music Submission Guideline section.
  • Choice of song is open to the contestant. Must be in Tamil language.
  • It could be just one song or a medley of songs on any theme that the team takes up for the dance performance; Theme should reflect Tamil culture and history.
  • Use of music with foul/slang language is not allowed.
  • Props are encouraged. Contestants should get their own props. All props must be specified to the event coordinator.

NON- CLASSICAL PARTICIPATION RULES

  • Each performance has a time limit of 4 mins and only maximum permitted time is allowed. Negative points apply for overage. The performance will be disqualified if time is exceeded by more than 1 minute.
  • Its mandatory for the music to be submitted prior to the event date. CD’s will no longer be accepted. Please refer Music Submission Guideline section.

  • Singing with Karaoke or any music should be provided to organizers prior. Same day music or last minute changes will not be allowed.
  • All performers for group performances should be on stage at the beginning of the performance. Teams will be disqualified if performance does not start within 30 seconds of arrival to stage.
  • Use of music with foul/slang language is not allowed.
  • The decision of Judges will be final and binding.
  • The Judges will score on a variety of guidelines like theme, notes, taalam, etc. Please refer to scoring Guidelines below.

CLASSICAL VOCAL SCORING GUIDELINE

PARTICIPATION RULES

  • Only one entry per contestant. This is a solo competition.
  • Duration is 2 hours from start to finish.
  • Theme for drawing competition will be announced in advance so participants can research and plan their creations.
  • Contestants must bring their own art supplies.
  • Mixed media drawing paper will be provided.
  • All art submissions must be created on the premises of the drawing competition on the drawing paper provided.
  • Printed copy, practice sheet or copying of images using electronic devices are not allowed during the competition and will lead to disqualification from the competition.
  • Drawing of indecent/obscene images, foul/slang verbiage will lead to disqualification from the competition.
  • The contestants will primarily be judged on their usage of theme, use of medium, cleanliness and uniqueness of work.
  • Both dry and wet mediums are permitted.
    • For Regional Competition: Contestants permitted to use only one medium for their submission. Either dry or wet.
    • For National Competition: Contestants permitted to use one or more mediums, dry, wet or combination.
  • All contestants must clearly mention their assigned id on the back of the provided drawing paper.

MUSIC SUBMISSION GUIDELINE FOR DANCE & VOCAL

  • All participants must submit the corresponding music file for their performance prior to the event.
  • All participants will be assigned an id number during registration.
  • All participants will be informed of their access to Google drive via email to the email address provided during registration.
  • All music files must be saved in mp3 file format ONLY.
  • The file naming convention should be .mp3
  • All music files will be scrutinized for the time limit. If the time limit exceeds the allowed max limit, the entries will be disqualified.
  • The file must be uploaded on or before 15 days from the announced event date.
